Tapedeck Terms of Service
Last updated: July 23, 2026
Agreement
Tapedeck is a free, open-source desktop application published by Melodic Development. By downloading, building, or using Tapedeck, you agree to these terms.
What Tapedeck is
Tapedeck is a local player that turns a YouTube channel, playlist, or link you provide into a queue, played back through the official YouTube embedded player. It does not host, download, store, or redistribute any video or audio content — all media streams directly from YouTube.
License
Tapedeck's source code is licensed under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify, and redistribute it under those terms. The Tapedeck name and logo are not covered by the MIT License and identify this specific project.
Your Google account and YouTube content
- You must have your own Google account and, to build the app yourself, your own Google OAuth client — Tapedeck doesn't provide shared credentials.
- Your use of YouTube content through Tapedeck is subject to YouTube's Terms of Service and applicable copyright law, the same as if you watched on youtube.com.
- You're responsible for how you use any channels, playlists, or mixtapes you build with Tapedeck.
See the Privacy Policy for what data Tapedeck accesses and stores.
Acceptable use
You agree not to use Tapedeck to:
- Circumvent YouTube's Terms of Service, digital rights management, or ad delivery.
- Download, rip, or extract audio or video — Tapedeck is a player, not a downloader, and doesn't include this capability.
- Access or attempt to access another person's Google account or data without authorization.
No warranty
Tapedeck is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Melodic Development does not guarantee Tapedeck will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every YouTube channel, playlist, or account configuration.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Melodic Development is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, Tapedeck — including loss of data, loss of your local library, or issues arising from third-party services (Google, YouTube) that Tapedeck depends on but does not control.
Third-party services
Tapedeck depends on Google and YouTube APIs and the YouTube embedded player, which are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Melodic Development is not responsible for the availability, content, or policies of these third-party services.
Changes
We may update these terms as Tapedeck changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date at the top of this page and noted in the project's release notes.
